Spring - Superheroes
Welcome back to a new and exciting term in Blackbirds! This term our topic is Superheroes... Where we will be exploring a variety of our favourite superheroes and everyday heroes within our working world!
For our class sparkling start we all came dressed as our favourite superhero!
We explored our special powers and compared these with our friends. We also collaborated to create our own superhero assault course to challenge each other!
This week we have been exploring the artist Kandinsky and his bold repetitive patterned art.
We have been very luck this week to have the artist Jack Brown visit us this week and develop our painting skills. We learnt how to control a brush and about primary and secondary colours.
We finished off the week but having an art exhibition where we shared our art with our family and friends. We were realy proud of our achievements this week.
This half we have been exploring the book SuperKid which we have really enjoyed sharing these experience with our friends. We have been; recreating roles, comparing emotions, recalling key information from the story and retelling this brilliant story.
This week we are exploring the materials; plastic, metal, glass and wood. We will be sorting and classifying objects within our everyday world and comparing their properties.
We will be conducting an experiment to create the best superhero cape... What features will it need to be the most effective?
Creative Writing Week
This week we are very lucky to have the circus visiting our school all week!
We started off the week by watching the circus perform, this was very exciting and inspired many children when thinking about what they were going to write.
We enjoyed watching the show, we cheered, clapped and laughed a lot. Some of us even got to go up and help the circus acts!
After watching the circus show we had lots of inspiration so we started the create our own charcter who would join the circus. We had lots of clowns and acrobats.
We worked really hard to create our very own circus mystery story, once we finished writing we went to reception to read our stories to the Robins.
Once we read our stories we watched Reception perform their circus myster story. We all had front row seats.
Autumn - Dinosaur Discovery
Welcome back to a new and exciting school year in Blackbirds! This term our topic is Dinosaur Discovery... We have already had a visit from our friendly Lowestoft Dinosaurs!
For our class sparkling start we went on a dinosaur hunt around the school to see what evidence we could find that Dinosaurs had been in our school!
We found bones, food, fossils, foot prints and Dinosaur eggs!
We have been recreating roles as dinosaurs considering our movements and control as Dinosaurs are very scary creatures!
We have been curious to recreate and tell the story of Dinosaur Farm. We used talk for writing to create actions for the story to help us remember all parts of the story; beginning, middle and end. We then planned them collaboratively with our friends and wrote each section.
White reading diaries
These books are used as a home to school communication and need to be brought in everyday. These diaries are a form of communication and any accidents or incidences will be reported in these books for your information.
Our class library slot is Wednesday, so please return your child's reading book every Wednesday. Please read with your child at least 3 times a week and record this in your white reading diaries.
PE will be on Monday and Friday mornings, this can sometimes changed to staff training so we suggest you keep your child's PE kit in school all week.
Forest schools will be every other Friday and will fit in with our topic this term so if your child can have wellies in school at all times please.
