Hawks & Honey Buzzards Year 6
Welcome to our Year 6 class page!
Summer in Year 6
We have a very exciting term this summer for Year 6.
After their final SATs test, year 6 visited Beccles Free School as part of a REAch 2 organised event. The children were able to participate in various high school workshops revolving around: P.E, Science and Maths! This was a great way to wind down after their fantastic resilience during SATs week!
Kingswood
As a recognition for all Year 6's efforts this school year, they have been provided with an excellent opportunity to take part in an action packed residential trip to the Kingswood adventure activity centre in West Runton.
Feel free to browse through the Kingswood website and preview many of the activities in which your child may participate!

The school will be paying £120 of the £170 cost per child - meaning that a £50 deposit is requested by the school to be paid by 16/05/2016. This can be paid in weekly £10 installments, if desired, or a one off payment.
Spring in Year 6
Extra Learning
We are extremely lucky we have such a high level of commitment to learning within Year 6 which is evidenced through such high attendance of all the extra learning opportunities offered exclusively to Year 6.
We currently have booster groups for SATs preparation on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. If you wish for your child to attend any of the sessions please contact a member of the Year 6 team or the office.
The whole Year 6 team, Mrs Clarke and Mrs Jones are extremely proud of the Year 6 children and their dedication to their self improvement and personal development whilst attending three days of school during the Easter holidays.
Yoga
Year 6 have had the luxury of having the privilege to attend small yoga sessions with Mrs Carey, a professional yoga teacher. Be sure to check some of their balance and focusing skills. We are sure they are confident enough to deliver their own sessions if you ask!
Mandarin
The children have been extremely lucky to have had weekly, online Skype sessions learning Mandarin with a Chinese tutor online from Beijing!
Be sure to test your child's new found language skills using some of these key phrases!
Autumn in Year 6
Our topic for this half term has been: The Dark Knight? Caped Crusader?
So far this half term we have been studying the life style and choices of The Dark Knight himself...Batman!
Our class reader book this term is 'The Hobbit' by J. R. R. Tolkien
We have recreated Bilbo's experiences using our diary writing skills...
We were unfortunate at the start of the term to find the Honey Buzzards' classroom had been uprooted and turned into a live crime scene...
This provided an excellent stimulus for potential writing, reading and mathematical opportunities.
We have considered:
Thinking as citizens to explore why Batman would choose to fight drugs and what effect these may have on the human body...
His specific dietary needs using our knowledge of number and calculation to identify how many calories Bruce himself would require in a days work...
We have also introduced our new Primary Advantage Maths programme across the school which allows children to be more engaged through using a wider range of resources
Writing as journalists to report crime events in and around the school to 'The Daily Planet' providing an accurate account of the event...
Working as mechanics to design a new and improved Batmobile for Batman after an unexplainable accident caused his current mode of transport to be 'written off' the road..
.
Homework
Homework is set every Friday and expected to be returned by the end Tuesday. 'Homework Club' is available to every child Tuesday lunch times to receive support with select questions.
