Autumn 1: Story Book Friends
This half-term we have been looking at stories written by Mick Inkpen. We have met, Kipper, Tiger, Wibbly Pig and a few more lovable characters. The children developed an enjoyment of reading and loved reading and re telling the familiar stories to their friends.
We used these characters to lead us into other subjects. In DT we made a blanket for Wibbly Pig by drawing on fabric. This tied in with our science topic of materials where the children sorted different types of fabrics to find ones that would be suitable for a blanket. They also sorted classroom objects into wood, metal and plastic and discussed why certain materials were chosen to make each object.
Another DT project was to create a pop up story book based on Kipper. The children included flaps, and sliders to make their characters move.
Jasper's Beanstalk was used as an introduction to our science topic about plants. The children drew and labelled a simple plant talking about the job each part performed . They were very proud of themselves when they learned the word "photosynthesis!" This story was also used for sequencing and as an introduction to diary writing.
We had a fabulous trip to the Marina Theatre to see "Dear Zoo" live on stage.
We had a great view and the show had everyone laughing and singing along.
