Autumn 2: Global Citizens (Kenya)
This half-term we have been discovering what it means to be a Global Citizen. To help us we have found out about Kenya.
In English we used the story of 'Handa's Surprise' to write our own adventure story. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7bcdzh31As4
Can your child tell you what their favourite character in the story was? How did they change their story?
In Maths we have used our knowledge of place value to help us add and subtract.
This helped us to find lots of different ways to make the same number. Can your child show you how with the number 21?
In Geography we have learnt lots about the country of Africa. To help us do this we discovered the 5 continents and the 7 oceans of the world.
We compared the houses in Africa with our own and also how they spent their day. We even got a letter from a child in Africa. We were able to write back to her to answer her questions about Lowestoft and to find out more about her life.
In Forest School we made some mud huts using what we had found out about Kenya. We thought about what it might be like to live in them.
In DT we looked at different types of clothing which people may wear in Africa. We used our understanding of patterns and colour to design our own African clothing.
Which colours and patterns did your child use to make their design?
