Our topic "Superheroes" got off to a flying start with the children enjoying the story of Supertato by Paul Linnet and Sue Hendra. The classroom was invaded by vegetables and the children needed to track down Evil Pea!
The children wrote cartoon strips of the beginning of the story and chose their own alternative endings to complete the story.
We were lucky enough to have some real life superheroes come into school. The children got to meet Miss De Pasquale's mum who is a paramedic. She bought her car and lots of equipment to show the children. We were also visited by two police officers and again got to experience what it was like inside the car. The children used these experiences to help them write fact files about these real life superheroes.
In maths the children continued to deepen their knowledge of adding and subtracting. They have used larger numbers and have begun to use dienes equipment rather than cubes. They also re visited place value using numbers to 100. The children have also made links between counting in multiples of 2, 5 and 10 with learning their times tables.
The children looked at Christian stories of "The parable of the sower" and "The Good Samaritan". They learned that some stories have a moral and were used by Jesus to show people how he thought they should live their lives .
Art and design has been a big project this year. The children drew self portraits and then made a wooden frame to mount it in. The children were very responsible using the saws and we were very proud watching them enjoy this new skill.
In science we looked at the human body and named the parts . We also investigated the senses to see what they were and how they help us in our daily life.
