Spring 2: Life in Lowestoft

Life in Lowestoft.

During the first part of the spring term, we looked at our local area. We identified the countries that make up the United Kingdom, discussed the counties that make up England and located Lowestoft on a map of the UK.

Following this, we started to think about the different features of our local community and sorted them into physical and human features. We discovered that human features relate to man-made elements of our environment, while physical features are those that have formed naturally.

We also looked at the different ways in which land is used within Suffolk. We discovered that there are both rural and urban areas within our county. Rural areas are where land is used mostly for agricultural activities and urban areas are usually built-up and densely populated.

We discovered that sketch maps can be made of an area. These are maps that are drawn from a 'birds-eye view' and only show the main features of an area. They are not drawn to scale, but would still be useful to help someone find their way around a town as it shows landmarks and main roads.
