Green Flag School

In July 2022 we gained Green Flag School status thanks to the hard work of our 'Eco Warriors'.  Keep an eye out for our Green Flag flying high!

Take a look at the information below to see just why we achieved this prestigious award.

We are very pleased to tell you that you and your Eco-Committee at St Margaret's Primary Academy have been awarded an Eco-Schools Green Flag.

We reviewed your application and noted the following:

We love your democratic and fair approach to appointing Eco-Committee members. It’s great to see that other pupils played a part in the process. Your Eco-Committee has done a wonderful job of keeping the school and wider community informed about their Eco-Schools work. It would be brilliant to see your Eco-Committee represented by pupils from even more year groups in future!

It was wonderful to see how completing your Environmental Review helped your Eco-Committee to spot gaps in your school's existing environmental activity. But equally important is that it helped you to recognise the great work that you were already doing. This helps to keep up the good activity whilst making you feel empowered to do different things. We love this!

Your Action Plan was concise, SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time Bound) and clearly influenced by your environmental review. This is a great example of self-reflective practice, research-led planning and critical thinking. We love your ambition in tackling areas where you scored lowest in the Environmental Review. This shows you have a confident Eco-Committee dedicated to maximising their impacts.

We were impressed to see how environmental topics have been weaved into a broad range of curriculum subjects, and we love that you dedicated a whole ‘Eco-Afternoon’ to engaging pupils in dialogue and discussion around these topics. Getting pupils to write letters to express their concerns over environmental issues is also a great example of how we can both educate and empower them.

Your Eco-Committee has done a marvellous job of promoting your environmental work and spreading the eco-message beyond the school gates into the wider community, and your parent quote is testament to the sense of ownership that your pupils have over their Eco-Schools work. Your Eco-Board is brilliant! It is colourful, informative, engaging and a joyous celebration of all of your wonderful achievements so far on your eco-journey. Your Eco-Code is concise and powerful, and a reminder of how small actions undertaken collaboratively can have a big positive impact.

Your achievements this year have been fantastic – from your dedicated Eco-Afternoon, to seeing your young people engage with and take ownership of your eco-initiatives. You should all be very proud of your amazing efforts and the great application you have submitted.

Congratulations to you all for this brilliant work and earning your Green Flag accreditation!
