What are we learning in Year 5 this half term?
Reading
These are all the texts that your child will explore throughout the year!

At St Margaret's we are passionate about reading! We teach a daily reading session based on a Curriculum for Unity School’s Partnership (CUSP) text. The core texts are supplemented by a variety of additional texts, to support children developing their reading fluency and confidence across a range of text types.
This half-term our core text is... 'SHACKLETONS JOURNEY' by William Grill
This beautifully illustrated book tells of Ernest Shackleton’s incredible expedition as he attempted to cross Antarctica.

Ernest Shackleton
When his ship was trapped in pack ice, Shackleton guided his 27 crew members across floating ice and dangerous seas to safety, ensuring that not a single man was lost.
Writing
At St Margaret's Primary Academy we follow CUSP for our writing curriculum. The CUSP curriculum is a vocabulary rich, knowledge based approach to help develop pupils' retrieval, vocabulary and deepen learning.
During the first half of autumn we will be writing...
- Formal Letters of Application - We will be applying to join Shakleton on his expedition!
- Third Person Stories Set in Another Culture - Linking to our History unit on the Greeks!
- Poems which explore form - Haikus and Cinquains!
