Nursery Curriculum
Our Nursery follows the REAch2 curriculum, which is carefully designed to ensure children develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes they need to thrive in the Early Years and beyond. Learning is rooted in the EYFS framework and covers all areas outlined in Development Matters.
How Children Learn
Learning in Nursery is delivered through a balance of:
- Continuous provision – carefully planned areas of learning that children can access independently every day
- Enhanced provision – purposeful enhancements added to extend learning, spark curiosity and respond to children’s interests
- Adult-led experiences – short, focused teaching moments that develop key skills and concepts
We place a strong emphasis on developing key skills, including communication, problem solving, independence, curiosity and resilience.
Characteristics of Effective Learning
We actively promote the Characteristics of Effective Learning, encouraging children to:
- Play and explore
- Actively learn
- Create and think critically
These characteristics support children in becoming confident, motivated and independent learners.
Stories at the Heart of Learning
Stories are central to our curriculum. We focus on one core story each week, which is used to support:
- Language development and vocabulary
- Imagination and creativity
- Early literacy skills
- Links across all areas of learning
Prime and Specific Areas of Learning
Our curriculum supports all Prime Areas of Learning, which underpin everything children do:
- Communication and Language
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development
- Physical Development
Alongside this, children are introduced to the Specific Areas of Learning:
- Literacy
- Mathematics
- Understanding the World
- Expressive Arts and Design
These areas are thoughtfully woven into daily play opportunities, routines and adult interactions.
Outdoor Learning and Forest School
Outdoor learning is a vital part of our curriculum. Children take part in Forest School sessions once a week, where they:
- Explore the natural environment
- Develop physical skills and confidence
- Build resilience, teamwork and problem-solving skills
